It is the city of Mozart, the Salzburg Festival and the Sound of Music. A musical sky overarches a skyline that is second to none. The centuries-long rule of the Salzburg prince archbishops produced an urban gem.
It was not for nothing that Alexander v. Humboldt counted Salzburg among the most beautiful places in the world. Embedded between three city mountains, a historical city center grew, which was almost never affected by warlike conflicts. In the surrounding area you will find a romantic and varied natural landscape, which already inspired artists and travelers of the 18th century.
What to see in Salzburg

Salzburg is more than just Mozart's city or festival city. The Hohensalzburg Fortress, the Mozart Birthplace, the Cathedral Quarter or Hellbrunn are among the most popular sights in Salzburg, along with numerous others. We are happy to advise you in planning an eventful day in this beautiful city!
Fortress Hohensalzburg
The Hohensalzburg Fortress is a real eye-catcher high above the baroque towers of the city. As a landmark visible from afar, the castle is an unmistakable part of Salzburg's world-famous silhouette. Mighty it appears to the visitor from afar and behind its thick walls history becomes tangible.
Hellbrunn Palace and Water Games
Visit the pleasure palace with its works of art, explore the extensive park and experience the world-famous water games with their grottos, jets and water-powered gimmicks. Pure pleasure!
In the world-famous water games today you will experience the same fun that Markus Sittikus already offered his guests.
Hellbrunn Zoo
A particular concern of the zoological garden is to harmoniously combine the beauty of the given landscape at Hellbrunn with the familiar living environment of the animals. Thus, specific landscape spaces have been and are being created that allow visitors large and small to experience a balanced relationship between plant and animal life. Using materials that are as natural as possible, "zoo habitats" have been created that meet the needs of the animals and also make it possible to observe animal communities related to the species.
DomQuartier
The cathedral and residence form the historic center of the city of Salzburg. For 200 years, however, the passages between the prince-archbishop's palace, the cathedral oratories, and the Kunstkammer and painting galleries were closed or walled up. With the establishment of the DomQuartier, the original unity of the cathedral and residence complex - including the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter - is now being restored. A tour provides new views of the city as well as unknown insights into the architectural sights and baroque treasure chambers.
Mozart residence
Mozart lived here from 1773-1780. Exhibits about the life of the Mozart family and the history of the house.
The Mozart residence, also called "Tanzmeisterhaus", first mentioned in documents in 1617, consisted of two houses until 1685. On August 3, 1711, Lorenz Speckner received permission by decree to hold dancing lessons for noblemen in this house. According to the "Seelenbeschreibung" (today: census) of 1713, the house is now called "Tanzmeisterhaus".
Mozart's birthplace
The house where Wolfgang Amadé Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, is now one of the most visited museums in the world.
Mozart's birthplace at No. 9 Getreidegasse in Salzburg is one of the most famous buildings in the city and probably one of the most famous in the world. This is because the Leopold Mozart family lived here from 1747 to 1773 and the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born here on January 27, 1756.
